“it’s weakening………..and, uh, that’s good, yeah”
I am an avid Weather Channel watcher (nerd) when there are hurricanes brewing. I get this biggest kick out of the way the meteorologists are such harbingers of doom. There is a catch of excitement in their voice when the wind speed goes up and the pressure goes down. And, when a system “weakens”, they almost sound disappointed as they tell about the slower wind speed and higher pressure…and there is a pregnant pause before they say, “And that, of course, is good news to the folks (in the path)” Like they are disappointed that it’s not going to keep growing into an F5 monster (wait, isnt that a tornado rating? ahh, well, I’m from Nebraska) Cat 5…that’s it.
So, that made me wonder what the “F” stood for in the tornado rating. “F” stands for Fujita. The Fujita scale of rating tornadoes…they go from F0 - F6. He was a professor who came up with the scale and ratings.
More useless information that I couldnt live without knowing. Thanks, Google. I think you waste more of my time than you save ![]()
